Flowing Clear

Flowing Clear:
A surprising approach to clearing space in your life for what matters

Have you got important things to do — but you’re feeling bogged down with no space to do what matters?

Is there a way to understand why you feel stuck and held back from what you know you want to do — and then actually do something about it?

Instead of a free-flowing stream chuckling happily through its creek-bed, you feel like a stagnant pond, choked with mud and reeds. You’ve got so much that you care about and want to get done — but there’s always something in your way.

You consider yourself reasonably organized, yet you can’t seem to get a handle on what’s holding you back. You feel like your brain is stuffed full, never mind your office or garage, and you just want a clear path so you can get things done.

Every time you try to start a project, you barely touch it before you feel overwhelmed and claustrophobic. Things feel cluttered, even though there may not actually be much stuff around. You know if you could figure it out and clear it out, you’d get more done.

You haven’t been able to make any headway because clutter is much more than just stuff, the physical objects you can see.

Book Clutter

Clutter is actually made up of four things.

  1. Yes, it does include the stuff piled around your house and office. But that’s only the tip of the iceberg, and may not be what’s really bothering you.

  2. Another part is the relationships and obligations you maintain out of habit that aren’t satisfying any more — for you or the other person.

  3. Then there are the things you carry around in your mind — ideas, thoughts, and beliefs — that are overwhelming and constricting.

  4. Finally, grudges and grumbles, past and present, weigh you down and contribute to that stuffed-brain feeling.

Just as you periodically weed out your closet, getting rid of old clothes that don’t suit you any more, so you also have to weed out other, less tangible aspects of your life. Then you can sail forward into a clear future instead of being anchored by the past.

When you clear clutter of any type, you create space!

Donate a pile of books to the library, and you have space on your bookshelf.

Donate old clothes to charity, and you have space in your closet.

Write down your ideas, and you make space in your creative mind.

Let go of relationships and obligations that no longer support you, and you create space in your life.

Relinquish old grudges and current grumbles, and you create space in your heart.

Nature abhors a vacuum!

When you make that space, whether in your bookshelf, your closet, your creativity, your life, or your heart, something will come to fill it.

You’ll find the space you need to do what matters, and make room for the creativity, the support, and the self-nourishment that make everything you do so much easier.

Char Brooks Every angle of me was saying clutter. My work, my home, my personal relationships, my finances — it all felt overwhelming because I felt there was no way to find a path through it all. There were too many things hanging in the air.

And here’s this book called Flowing Clear. What’s clear?! Clear wasn’t even a reference point for me. I doubted very much that I could flow anything but murky, if I could even flow at all.

The first thing I did was listen to the CDs, because then I could multi-task at the same time. That was the only way I could get myself to slow down. As I was listening and straightening my office, I noticed that things were falling into place. Things I didn’t have spots for, all of a sudden the spots were in front of me. Things I couldn’t figure out whether to keep or not — my decisions were clear, and it happened at the same time as I was listening to the CD.

I listened to all of the CDs while I was doing my office, and after I was done listening to them, when I stepped back and looked at my office, I could see, My God, I’m flowing clearly in here! Then I was interested enough to single-task and read your material.

Decisions are easier now. I find places for things, or if there’s not a place, then I’m confident that one will emerge — and it does. My life in general feels like it’s flowing clear: a lot less effort, a lot more focus, a lot more direction. I’m getting what I want and seeing things for what they are, not what I wish they were.

In my relationships, for instance, I was able to see clearly what is the message in this for me, and is it something I’m willing to deal with? And I found a number of things I was willing to deal with, and a number that I also was not.

It’s surprising how quickly it can happen once you have a method to your madness. It’s far more time-consuming, far more stressful, far more effortful to have these particles of unfinished business out there than it is to look at the question and answer it.

I would tell people they can’t afford not to buy your product, frankly. If they really listen to it, it can be life-changing.

  1. Is it something I can fix?

Sometimes technology trips us up — so if you have a bad recording, or if there’s something amiss with the PDF, just let me know and I’ll make sure you get a corrected version. And there may be a way I can fix something that’s not technology-related, too.

  2. If I can’t fix it, I’ll refund your money in full.
